Alströmerska Magasinet takes new shape
This year, the starting point for Lights in Alingsås is Alströmerska Magasinet, the museum building in the centre of town. Alströmerska Magasinet was built by Jonas Alströmer in 1731 and it is the only remaining building from that time. It is, in fact, the oldest building in Alingsås.
For a long time, Alströmerska Magasinet was used to store goods, wool in particular. In the 1880's the building was sold and made into a dairy. Approximately 40 years later, the dairy was bought by the City Council, who decided to use the building to house the historical references and memories of the town of Alingsås. This year, the charming building will be housing activities that indicate a trend in the town's development. In other words, it will be maintaining a key role in the development of Alingsås. VIA Sweden and Lights in Alingsås are moving into Alströmerska Magasinet.
During Lights in Alingsås, companies will be able to arrange their own seminars in the building; the general public and professional people will have the opportunity to attend lectures and seminars on Light and Lighting given by international speakers; information about Lights in Alingsås will be available inside the building and guided tour tickets will be on sale there. A café is planned for those who would simply like the chance to enjoy a cup of coffee and experience the dynamic lighting installation in the cellar vault. There will also be another enchanting lighting installation in the gardens outside.
