Lights in Alingsås shines a spotlight on the magic of film.

The theme for Lights in Alingsås 2025 is Movies in Lights – a celebration of the enchanting world of cinema. This year’s lighting designers draw inspiration from the powerful art of visual storytelling, inviting visitors to an unforgettable experience. Films speak to us all – regardless of age, background, or origin. We remember scenes that made us laugh, cry, dream, or feel a little less alone.

Exactly how the theme will be interpreted, and which genres or moods will take shape in the installations, will be revealed at the grand opening on October 3, 2025. Much like last year’s theme, it’s all about storytelling – and in the world of cinema, the possibilities are endless.

“We wanted a theme centered around stories – something that evokes the feeling of movie night, the buzz of anticipation, the murmur of the audience, the sense of being transported to another world – and the smell of popcorn,” says Frida Almqvist, Workshop Manager for Lights in Alingsås.

Popular features return

The window display competition, which was introduced last year and quickly became a crowd favorite, will return this year. With great participation from the Alingsås Retail Association, 17 businesses joined the competition, and many visitors voted for their favorite displays.

The Lights in Alingsås app is also getting an update. Previously offering an audio guide for purchase, the app will now offer the guide for free – a great alternative for those who want to explore the festival at their own pace without booking a guided tour. The traditional guided tours will still depart from Åmanska Parken.

The workshop week runs from September 26 – October 4, and Lights in Alingsås 2025 will illuminate the city from October 3 – November 2.
