Lights in Alingsås wins Hållbarhetsklivet 2025
The 25th anniversary edition of Lights in Alingsås has been awarded Årets Hållbarhetskliv 2025 (Sustainability Step of the Year 2025) in the category Municipal Initiative. Hållbarhetsklivet is West Sweden’s unified initiative for sustainable tourism, coordinated by Turistrådet Västsverige.
The award annually highlights one tourism business and one municipal initiative from each sub-region in Västra Götaland that has made particularly strong contributions to sustainable tourism. The 2025 awards were presented on November 13 during Turistrådsdagen at the Bergakungen cinema in Gothenburg.
The jury’s motivation read:
“Lights in Alingsås is not only a fantastic event but also a platform for sustainable urban development. Through inclusive guided tours, energy-efficient technology, and strong local engagement, Lights in Alingsås demonstrates how culture can shape the city of the future and create new ways for people to meet and experience the place.”
The other nominees in the municipal initiative category were the Biosfärsleden (Skaraborg), SM-veckan in Borås (Sjuhärard) and Dalslands Graveldestination (Fyrbodal). The winner in the tourism business category was Stiftelsen Läckö Slott.
Lights in Alingsås is organized annually by Alingsås Energi. The 26th edition of the light festival concluded on November 2, 2025 and attracted around 70,000 visitors, primarily from the surrounding region.
