Children’s Lights becomes “JURASSIC PARK – the Return of the Excavators”

JURASSIC PARK – the Return of the Excavators is an idea born from children’s fascination with dinosaurs and large digging machines. Inspired by the world of film, Malin Wallin wanted to play with the suspense of Jurassic Park and transform Paradisparken into a cinematic space for play, interaction, and experience.

“Since this year’s theme is “Movies in Lights”, I wanted to recreate that feeling of putting on a performance in the backyard as a child. I know that with simple means you can create a stage and a bit of magic. I’ve enjoyed the thrilling tension of Jurassic Park ever since my teenage years, and it was the first movie I thought of when I heard about this year’s theme. It felt like a fun way to work with the drama of light, music, and the terrifying dinosaurs,” says Malin.

The idea for the installation came one day when she saw some children standing in awe, watching an excavator working, and she realized how much the machine resembled a dinosaur with its long neck and big jaws.

“They were like giant metal dinosaurs, and I envisioned a scene where a child could sit on its back, control the jaws, and become its arms. Maybe you’d even dare to be the one chased in the middle? A lit-up film scene and an interactive space for all ages, whether you choose to step into the movie or remain part of the audience,” Malin explains.

Children’s Lights is sponsored every year by Alingsås Energi and Sparbanken Alingsås, who are also closely involved throughout the entire festival.

“We are proud to have been the main partner of Lights in Alingsås since the beginning, and especially proud to be part of Children’s Lights and to offer the youngest visitors an exciting experience,” says Staffan Svantesson, CEO of Sparbanken Alingsås.
